Junior Sewing & Needle Work

Exhibits must be clean, the work of the exhibitor, not shown before. One entry per section.

CLASS 530

8 AND UNDER

 1. Create a picture of a flag from any country using yarn, felt, buttons or other sewing notions. 

2. Create a picture of the world using yarn, felt, buttons or other sewing notions. 

3. String buttons on a piece of yarn, no longer than 12". The pattern of the buttons will be the feature judged. 

4. Parents, cut a circle (representing the world) from craft foam, hand sew around the outside. 

5. Using a sock, make a hand puppet of any animal. 

6. SPECIAL: Dress a teddy bear to represent any culture from around the world (5 or less items, securely attached). Prizes: 1st: $4.00, 2nd: $3.00, 3rd: $2.50, 4th: $2.00, $1.50 Ride Coupons for Section 6 Only: awarded to all creditable entries courtesy of D.A. Campbell Amusements to be picked up at the PAS Office starting Saturday of Fair. 

7. SPECIAL: Cover a can with fabric to look like the countryside using fabric and sewing notions. Prizes: 1st: $5.00, 2nd: $4.00, 3rd: $3.00, 4th: $2.50, 5th: $2.00 1st prize donated in memory of Norma Brooks. 

13 AND UNDER

 8. Machine sew a tote bag using non traditional fabric (placemats, towels, etc). 

9. Any hand-sewn item. 

10. Any sewn item using recycled fabric (jeans, shirt, blanket, etc). 

11. Any machine-sewn article of clothing. 

12. Decorate a T-shirt or sweatshirt representing a country or nationality of the world. 

13. Design on paper a dress/costume used for a wedding or fancy event, using pencil crayons or markers. 

14. Quilt block, designed on paper, using your own design, mounted, no larger than 12x12". 

15. Hand sewn Christmas decoration. 

16. Any sewn item to decorate your hair (bow, scrunchie, etc). 

17. SPECIAL: Create a hand puppet using a sock. Creativity and sewing will be judged. Label your creation on the entry tag Prizes: 1st: $5.00, 2nd: $4.00, 3rd: $3.00, 4th: $2.50, 5th: $2.00 1st place donated by Joanne Brooks.

19. SPECIAL: 2 machine-sewn pillowcases. Prizes: 1st: $15, 2nd: $12, 3rd: $10, 4th: $6, 5th: $3 Donated by Paris Quilting Bees. 

20. SPECIAL: Sew one of the following: cosmetic/toiletry bag, pencil case, jewelry travel bag, reusable lunch bag, zippered bag to store small toys. Prizes: 1st: $10, 2nd: $8, 3rd: $6, 4th: $4, 5th: $2 Donated by Brant Heritage Quilters Guild.

18 AND UNDER

22. Using marker print the name of a country on an 8 1/2"x11" piece of paper. Machine sew over the letters, tracing letters with the sewing needle. You do not need to use thread. 

23. Any knitted item, made from a kit or a pattern. 

24. Any crocheted item, made from a kit or a pattern. 

26. Any counted cross stitch item. 

27. Machine sewn tote bag using non-traditional fabric (place mats, towels etc). 

28. Any sewn item using recycled fabric (jeans, shirt, blanket, etc). 

29. Decorate a T-shirt or sweatshirt representing a country or their culture. Use 3 or more recycled items, labelled on entry tag. 

30. A raggedy quilt, no larger than 36"x45" 

31. Quilt block made into a sewn project (eg. potholder, wall hanging etc). 32. Any sewn item made in a 4H Club, label the club name on entry tag. 

33. Sampler of 5 embroidery stitches made on felt or fabric, mounted on cardboard/cardstock no larger than 10x10". 

34. Any latch hook item. 

35. Any macrame item. 

36. Any beaded item. 

37. Sew a zipper into fabric, and write out the steps followed. 

38. Any handicraft not previously listed, ribbon embroidery, tatting, hand embellishment, etc. 

39. Design on paper a dress/costume used for a country's cultural celebration, or their native dress, label country's name on entry tag. 

40. SPECIAL: Any knit or crocheted custom creation. Prizes: 1st: $5.00, 2nd: $4.00, 3rd: $3.00, 4th: $2.50, 5th: $2.00 1st prize donated by Joanne Brooks.
