CLASS 420

DAIRY, APIARY, ETC.

Prizes: 1st: $5.00, 2nd: $4.00, 3rd: $2.00, 4th: $1.50

1. Honey extracted, shall consist of two clear glass containers, each having a capacity of 500 grams (375 ml). a) Entries must be labelled on the BOTTOM of the containers only with a supplied entry number or identifier. No other labels will be permitted. b) Any honey entry containing any form of foreign material will be disqualified from the competition. c) An approved colorimeter will be used to assess the colour. d) Honey will be judged using the standards printed in the OAAS Agriculture & Horticulture Judging Standards for Ontario Fairs. 

2. Honey in comb approximately 1 lb. 

3. Hen's eggs, white 1 dozen. 

4. Hen's eggs, brown 1 dozen. 

5. Maple syrup, two (2) curved Kent style glass bottles (D&G #505188 Syrup Bottle with Handle), or equivalent, of Maple Syrup, Canada Grade A - Amber, ea a) Entries must be labelled on the BOTTOM of the containers only with a supplied entry number or identifier. No other labels will be permitted. b) All maple syrup should have a flavour characteristic of its respective colour class and be free from any objectionable odour or taste. It is best to sample from the same lot before submitting your entries to the OAAS. c) Any maple syrup entry containing any form of foreign material will be disqualified from the competition. d)An approved maple syrup colorimeter will be used to assess the colour. e) Maple syrup will be judged using the standards published by the OAAS in Agriculture & Horticulture Judging Standards for Ontario Fairs. 

  

YEAST BREADS

Bread pan approximately 9" x 5" x 3".

Bread and loaves to be in plastic bags.

HINT: for better baked pie crust pre-treat a new, empty foil pan at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

Only one piece of pie will be displayed, the remainder will be donated to our volunteers to prevent waste and more efficiently showcase our talented exhibitors.

SPECIALS

48. Wanna-Be Cookies in a Jar. To be judged on visual presentation and decoration only.

2 cups all purpose flour 

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. baking powder

2 1/2 cups ground oatmeal (grind in processor until very fine) 

8 oz. milk chocolate chips

4 oz. white chocolate chips 

1 1/2 cups slivered almonds 

1/2 cup shredded coconut

1 cup brown sugar 

1 cup white sugar

In a 2L jar, layer the dry ingredients in the order in which they appear in the recipe. Cap and decorate the jar. Add the baking recipe below and include it as part of the gift.

1 cup unsalted butter 

2 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla

Combine the butter, eggs and vanilla in a large bowl. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Preheat oven to 375ºF. Roll cookie dough in 2" balls. Bake for 6 minutes on ungreased cookie sheet. These cookies turn out best if underdone.

49. Double Layer Chocolate Cake with buttercream icing.

50. Apple Crumb Pie, 9" pie plate.

51. Ultimate rhubarb and white chocolate blondies - from 2021 Milk calendar. 3 pieces on a small plate.

Use the following recipe:

3/4 cup packed light brown sugar

1/3 cup butter

1 egg

2 tsp vanilla

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

3/4 cup diced fresh rhubarb

1/4 cup white chocolate chips 

  1. Preheat oven 350 ºF - line 8"x8" pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. 
  3. In a saucepan combine sugar and butter and heat until butter is melted and smooth, transfer to a large bowl and stir in egg and vanilla. Stir in flour mixture, rhubarb and white chocolate.
  4. Spread in prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes or until pale golden.
